Minetec’s key technological platform, WASP (Wireless Ad-hoc System for Positioning), is the foundation on which the Minetec Unified Platform and the majority of our solutions (tracking, safety and productivity) have been built.

WASP was developed in conjunction with CSIRO (the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) and has been commercially certified, adapted and ruggedised for mining by Minetec.

CSIRO-logoCSIRO is Australia’s national science agency and one of the largest and most diverse research agencies in the world. With more than 50 sites throughout Australia and overseas it is one of the largest and most diverse scientific institutions in the world. The cooperation between Minetec and CSIRO was brought by CSIRO’s achievements in pioneering Time-of-Arrival (TOA) technology as a viable solution to overcoming critical design issues associated with indoor environments such as multipath, reflection, timing, bandwidth restraints and node density.

Minetec’s adaptation of the TOA resulted in the development of WASP, which effectively delivers an underground GPS system where sub-metre accuracy is required. WASP also provides dual high speed data channels for integration of IP date, voice and video.
